This policy explains which cookies keymate.io uses and how you can control them. It is published by Keymate Inc. How we handle personal data in general is described in our Privacy Policy.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work as you expect; others help us understand how the site is used.
The cookies we use
We use one cookie that is always set. Analytics cookies are set only if you accept them. Marketing cookies are set only if you accept them: Microsoft sets its own cookies through Clarity, and our advertising partners set theirs while we run an ad campaign. We do not use social media cookies.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Kind | Duration | When it is set |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| cookiehub | keymate.io, through CookieHub | Remembers your choice for each kind of cookie, so we do not ask again on every page | Necessary | 12 months | On your first visit, and again each time you make a choice |
| _ga | keymate.io, through Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another so we can count visits | Analytics | Up to 2 years | Only after you accept |
| _ga_W3WEEX9NYL | keymate.io, through Google Analytics | Keeps track of your current visit | Analytics | Up to 2 years | Only after you accept |
| _clck | keymate.io, through Microsoft Clarity | Keeps the same Clarity ID for your visits to this site | Analytics | 1 year | Only after you accept |
| _clsk | keymate.io, through Microsoft Clarity | Joins the pages you view in one visit into one session recording | Analytics | 1 day | Only after you accept |
| _cltk (session storage, not a cookie) | keymate.io, through Microsoft Clarity | Identifies this browser tab to Clarity | Analytics | Until you close the tab | Only after you accept |
| MUID | clarity.ms and bing.com, by Microsoft | Identifies browsers that visit Microsoft sites; Microsoft uses it for advertising, site analytics and other operational purposes | Marketing | 13 months | Only after you accept marketing cookies |
| MR | clarity.ms and bing.com, by Microsoft | Tells Microsoft whether to refresh MUID | Marketing | 7 days | Only after you accept marketing cookies |
| SM | clarity.ms, by Microsoft | Keeps MUID the same across Microsoft domains | Marketing | Until you close the browser | Only after you accept marketing cookies |
| ANONCHK | clarity.ms, by Microsoft | Records whether MUID is passed to Microsoft's advertising cookie; Clarity always sets it to "no" | Marketing | 10 minutes | Only after you accept marketing cookies |
| SRM_B | bing.com, by Microsoft | Holds the same browser identifier as MUID; Microsoft does not describe it in Clarity's cookie list | Marketing | 13 months | Only after you accept marketing cookies |
Before an ad campaign starts, we add the advertising cookies it uses to this table, with who sets them and for how long.
Advertising cookies
We run ad campaigns from time to time on Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft. While a campaign runs, and only if you accept marketing cookies, these partners set cookies to measure the campaign and to show our ads to people who have visited this site. If you accept both analytics and marketing cookies, Microsoft also sets its own cookies through Clarity, listed in the table above, and uses them for its own purposes, including advertising.
If you reject cookies
No analytics or advertising cookies are stored in your browser. We use Google Consent Mode: Google Analytics may still receive a basic signal that a page was viewed, without any cookie or identifier that recognizes you. Google uses these signals to estimate overall traffic.
If you turn off a kind of cookie after accepting it earlier, we stop using its cookies and remove the ones set on keymate.io. Cookies that Microsoft set on its own domains (clarity.ms and bing.com) stay in your browser until they expire, because a site cannot delete another domain's cookies; you can delete them in your browser settings. While analytics cookies stay on, Clarity keeps running and your browser keeps sending those Microsoft cookies with it.
Embedded videos
One article on our blog shows a YouTube video in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube does not store cookies until you start the video. Once you play it, YouTube's own privacy policy applies.
Changing your choice
You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page, or here: . You can also delete cookies in your browser settings; the banner will then ask again.
Who receives the data
Analytics data is processed by Google, which provides Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to us. If you accept analytics cookies, session recordings and heatmaps go to Microsoft, which provides Microsoft Clarity and also uses this data for its own purposes; if you have also accepted marketing cookies, Microsoft receives its own browser identifiers too, as listed in the table above. While we run an ad campaign, and only if you accept marketing cookies, advertising data goes to the partner running it: Google, LinkedIn or Microsoft. Your cookie choice is recorded by CookieHub ehf. in Iceland, which provides the cookie banner to us: the record holds your choice for each kind of cookie, the date, the page and browser you used, and your IP address with its last part removed, and it is deleted after 12 months. More on how and where personal data is processed, and on your rights, is in our Privacy Policy.
Changes to this policy
When we add or remove a cookie, we update this page and the date at the top.
